Historic Naval Church saved by Heritage Lottery in Kent, UK
A historic Naval Church in Kent, UK has been saved for future generations thanks to Heritage Lottery funding.
Sheerness Dockyard Church is set to reopen in June after severe fire-damage in 2001 left only the shell of the building.
The Grade II* listed church was named as one of the most important buildings at risk in the south-east of England.
An ambitious restoration project chaired by Will Palin (son of TV's Michael Palin) as part of the Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust has secured the building's future.
Sheerness was a Royal Navy Dockyard strategically located at the mouth of the Medway and Thames for 300 years, until the navy left in 1960.
Footage shows the outside of the restored church this afternoon (May 18).
