SOUNDBITE 1 (English): YIN QINGRI, Chairman of Chinese community in Rwanda
"Because of the big rain, the biggest damaged areas are western and northern provinces. That's why we chose the western province. We wanted to show them that we are together with the sisters and brothers here."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Kinyarwanda): ONESPHORE NTAWIGOMWA, Director of Groupe Scolaire St Paul Rurembo
"Some children at our school have been directly affected by the recent disasters. Some have lost their school supplies and clothing, and the farms of some students' families have been destroyed. The supplies you have graciously given us will greatly contribute to resolving the issue of limited resources that the children were facing here at the school. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the Chinese, for their compassionate consideration of our situation and for coming to our aid following the devastating rainfall disaster."

At least 135 people were killed and 110 others injured in the disasters triggered by heavy rains last month in the East African country.

More than 20,000 people were displaced after nearly 6,000 houses were destroyed.
