At least nine people died after the car they were travelling in, a Mahindra Bolero, fell into a 500-metre-deep gorge in northern India's Uttarakhand. The incident occurred near Mussoorie-Hokra Motorway Supply Godown in the Pithoragarh district on June 22. The group was on its way to the Kokila Devi temple.

The police said that 11 people were travelling in the vehicle before it crashed. Two are critically injured.

The footage shows State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials as they aided one of the victims up the deep cleft by using sticks and torch lights under the cover of night.

Atleast nine people out of 11 travelling in a Mahindra Bolero car lost their lives after the vehicle fell into a 500-metre-deep gorge in northern India's Uttarakhand.

This incident happened near Mussoorie-Hokra Motorway Supply Godown under Nachani police station of Pithoragarh district on June 22.

Visuals showed one of the victims being helped up the gorge by officials of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). They were seen using sticks and torch lights to navigate their ways through the rocky terrain at night. As per a police official, the car had 11 people travelling in it and while nine are dead, two are critically injured. The SDRF officials rushed to the spot after the accident and started their rescue operation. While nine died on the spot, two have been shifted to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment. Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also condoled the death of the victims of this tragic incident.

A report states that they were on their way to the Kokila Devi temple in Hokra when this happened.
