STANDUP 1 (English): ALI JASWAL, Xinhua reporter
"Behind me is the crushing plant of Suki Kinari (SK) Hydropower Project located on Kunhar River in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This biggest hydropower project, under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework, is a diversion-type hydropower project featuring high heads and a long tunnel."
The project is equipped with four turbine generator units with a capacity of 221 megawatts each, together with a total installed capacity of 873.5 megawatts.
Invested and constructed by the China Gezhouba Group Corporation, the state-of-the-art infrastructure has been designed with Chinese technologies to be safe, cost-effective, and green.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ALI ADNAN, Health, safety and environmental engineer at SK
"The (Chinese Company) CGGC (China Gezhouba Group Corporation) is using the latest technology for this project, which obviously has a huge impact on the safety and the protection of the environment. This project, the purification plants and the machinery are all state-of-the-art machines."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Urdu): TAUSEEF AHMED, Health, safety and environmental engineer at SK
"There was no such mega project earlier in this area. So when the Chinese came, they brought a new technology with them. We were not aware of it earlier. First, they worked on this technology and then taught our unskilled local workers and made them work on this machinery."
With a total investment of about 1.96 billion U.S. dollars, the project started construction in January 2017.
At the peak of its construction, it had provided jobs to more than 6,000 locals.
Upon completion, the project will significantly optimize Pakistan's energy structure as it will generate 3.212 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and help save 1.28 million tonnes of standard coal annually.
