STORYLINE:

Argentine companies from the food and beverage sector participated on Wednesday in the launch of an exploratory trade mission to Shanghai, with a focus on the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held in November.

The event was organized by the Coordinator of the Food Products Industries (COPAL), which brings together more than 14,000 companies in the sector, the ICBC Bank, the Argentine-Chinese Chamber of Production, Industry and Commerce (CACPIC) and the Investment and Foreign Trade Promotion Agency of the city of Buenos Aires.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Spanish): DANIEL FUNES DE RIOJA, President of Argentine Industrial Union
"These steps are important to us. We have decided to join this expo, commit ourselves and truly encourage companies to be there. We know there are cultural and linguistic differences. Besides the logistics, which can be complicated, the support from organizational bodies we have received is also very important, and also COPAL has assumed its role in this."

The event, which was held in a hybrid format at the headquarters of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) in the federal capital Buenos Aires, analyzed the export profile of the Argentine food and beverage industry, the importance of the Chinese market to boost this sector and, specifically, the business opportunities offered by the CIIE for local entrepreneurs.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Spanish): JOSE LUIS GUISTI, Minister of Economic Development and Production of the city of Buenos Aires
"Today the whole world competes to sell to China and we believe that there is a lot to work on in Argentina in that sense. The Argentina that is coming is an Argentina that exports, that competes with the rest of the world, and there is no doubt that China, if not the most important part, is a very important part of that market that Argentine companies have to reach."
