Soldiers from the Hawaii National Guard CERF-P and Maui County and State officials conducted search and rescue operations as the death toll from the Maui wildfires in Hawaii rose to nearly 100 this week.

Dozens of guardsmen were dispatched to the historic town of Laihana to search for survivors when the blaze erupted.

Officials said that as of Monday, August 14, at least 99 had been killed by the blaze, with more feared dead as search crews comb through fire-stricken areas.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green said there was 'very little left' in Laihana town, with an estimated 5.6 billion USD of damages.

The wildfires have been described as the deadliest to hit the US in a century.
