This young little owl is determined that he is the one sitting pretty, as he pushes his brother off a fence post and then gives a cheeky look to the camera.

The 4-month-old owlet thinks nothing of ousting his unlucky sibling, who was enjoying a premium vantage point in a Potters Bar, Hertfordshire field.

Photographer Ian Turner, 57 has been watching the family of owls near his home in Potters Bar for three years, said: "They are hilarious to watch. They are not trying to entertain me but it's amazing to see that sibling rivalry is alive and well in nature too.

"They have only recently fledged, and when one of them finds something or has something the other one wants it too."

Little owls were introduced to the UK in the 19th century, and can be spotted across England, Wales and in southern Scotland.

Though small in size, the birds are known to prey on other birds, as well as voles and other small mammals.

Ian added: "I've gone from never having seen an owl three years ago to spending all this time with them. The mother of these two was an owlet chick I watched last year. It really is incredible."
