This is the shocking moment a teenager reversed a car into a food court, injuring 11 diners in Malaysia.

The 16-year-old had been instructed by his mum to start the Toyota Avanza when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator, sending the vehicle into the Medan Selera Tanjung Kling dining area in Melaka on August 26.

Dramatic CCTV footage shows the Toyota clipping the Proton Suprima S parked next to it before ploughing into customers - including small children - eating their meals.

Melaka Tengah district police chief Christopher Patit said around 11 people were injured, but none had filed complaints with police. There were no serious injuries.

He said in a statement: 'From investigation, we found that the boy had been instructed by his mother to warm up the vehicle before it happened.

'The teen accidentally pushed the car gas pedal, reversing the vehicle into the diners.

'The Proton Suprima S car sustained damage to the doors as a result of the incident, but the teenager escaped unhurt.'

The officer said the case is now being investigated under Section 43(1) of Malaysia's Road Transport Act 1987.
