Russia claimes it destroyed Ukrainian stronghold near Lyman with Ka-52 and Mi-35 helicopters
Footage appeares to show Russian Ka-52 and Mi-35 attack helicopters taking out a Ukrainian stronghold near Lyman.
The video begins with Russian helicopters taking off from an undisclosed location before they are seen flying low over countryside and opening fire on Ukrainian targets.
They then appear to return to land back at base.
The footage was obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Monday, September 4, along with a statement saying: 'The crews of Ka-52 and Mi-35 combat helicopters of the Central Military District destroyed a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Krasnolimansky direction.
'The crews of the combat helicopters Ka-52 and Mi-35 from the Central Military District, as part of mixed pairs, destroyed a Ukrainian Armed Forces stronghold in the Krasnolimansk direction within the special military operation zone.'
'The destruction of enemy personnel, as well as armoured combat vehicles and the enemy stronghold, was carried out using guided and unguided missiles, including launches from hovering positions. After successfully eliminating the targets, the attack helicopter crews performed evasive manoeuvres against enemy fire and returned to their base aerodrome.
'To evade the enemy's air defence systems, the pilots flew at extremely low altitudes while navigating the terrain.
'Upon returning to the base, the engineering and technical personnel began preparing the aviation equipment for further combat operations.'
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022 in what the Kremlin is still calling a 'special military operation'.
