A baby kangaroo got very frustrated when his mum wouldn't let him back into her pouch in this adorable video from western Australia.

Filmed in Yanchep National Park, the little joey can be seen pestering his mother for attention while she grazes, and even approaching a nearby male to see if he had a pouch before his mother let him in hers.

Western Grey Kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus) live in groups called mobs, usually with a dominant male that mates with most of the sexually mature females. After mating, gestation only lasts 30 days, and the jellybean-sized newborn climbs by itself through its mother’s fur to her pouch, where it attaches to a nipple. The baby kangaroo or joey remains in the pouch for about 9 months and continues to suckle for about 6 months as it is gradually weaned. Large joeys often poke their heads out of the pouch to feed with their mothers and leave the pouch to explore their surroundings or to play. If they become tired or frightened, larger Joeys will enter the pouch head-first, often leaving their feet and tail sticking out. Female kangaroos prevent their joeys returning to the pouch when they become pregnant again. This large joey was on the golf course in Yanchep National Park, alternating between trying to climb into its mother’s pouch and jumping about like a mad thing. It even approached a male kangaroo to see if he had a pouch before successfully climbing into his mother’s pouch.
