The Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus) is the most widespread and abundant of all of the large kangaroo species in Australia. The genus name Macropus means ‘big foot’. Western Grey Kangaroos are most active from late afternoon until the early morning, and rest during the day in the shelter of shrubs and trees. They usually dig a hole for their hip to make themselves more comfortable while resting. Yanchep National Park Western Australia supports a large population of these beautiful marsupials. This female Grey Kangaroo has a white blaze on her forehead and is resting in the shade in the ‘hip hole’ she excavated. Although she seems to be dozing her radar-like ears monitor her surroundings for danger.
