STORYLINE:
Around 90 representatives from transnational companies and foreign chambers of commerce in China gathered for an economic roundtable in China's Wuhan on Wednesday.
Many of the attendees voiced hope for enhancing trade relations with China, eyeing more opportunities in the Chinese market.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): SAEKI TAKEHIKO, Director of Japan External Trade Organization's Wuhan office
"What I am currently interested in are consumer-related aspects, as well as energy conservation and environmental protection. As China's pursuit of peaking carbon emissions and carbon neutrality creates a burgeoning market, Japanese companies like ours should definitely consider future investments in Hubei. I will introduce the economic conditions and advantages of Hubei Province to Japanese companies, and will be fully committed to promoting Sino-Japanese trade and investment."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): MEI BAOCHUN, Vice President of Smith Group China
"The roundtable meeting provides a platform in which enterprises are able to learn about industrial development in a certain region, understand the local characteristics, industrial strengths, and developmental uniqueness, as well as establishing connections with local enterprises.
Moreover, we may be more focused on the green and low-carbon sectors. Especially in the field of energy transition, we'll seek more opportunities in the development of new energy sources, energy storage, and in the vast domain of industrial electrification."
SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): YU XIN, Greater China General Manager of Government Affairs with Dow
"In fact, Wuhan has significant prospects for development in various sectors, including intelligent vehicles, optoelectronic information industry, as well as new materials and new energy sources.
I believe that many foreign-invested companies are keenly interested in these sectors. In these fields, Chinese and American enterprises can establish a mutually beneficial complementary relationship. I'm confident that the majority of foreign investors have faith in the Chinese market."
