The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has opened up enormous development opportunities for Kyrgyzstan, a Kyrgyz official has said.

Kyrgyzstan-China relations have been developing intensively in recent decades and today they are characterized as strategic, said Zhalyn Zheenaliev, deputy director of the National Investment Agency under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.

He said that over the past 10 years, the main investment partner of Kyrgyzstan has been China, and in general, 33 percent of the attracted investments came from China.

"Over the past 10 years, within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, a number of strategically important ideas of our republic have been implemented. In particular, the Datka-Kemin power transmission line was built. The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan highway was also built. A school was built on the territory of the city of Bishkek. In the city of Osh, a surgical hospital was built. And one of the most important initiatives was the construction of the north-south highway.
As part of this initiative, today, as you know, the development of a project for the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is beginning. This is a truly strategically important moment in our history, the history of Kyrgyzstan."
