Farmers raced on cattle at this century-old buffalo racing festival to honour the farm animals.

Locals celebrated the 152nd Buffalo Racing Festival, which was held on October 28 in Chonburi province, eastern Thailand.

Chonburi Governor Thawatchai Srithong presided over the ceremonies at a field in front of the Mueang Chonburi District Office marking the final day of the festivities.

The weeklong event is a longstanding tradition among residents to pay homage to the buffaloes that play an important role in agriculture.

Superstitious locals also believe the festival brings the animals protection from disease and natural disasters.

Various lively activities were organised, including a buffalo race, a buffalo beauty pageant, a talent show, and colourful parades where the bovine were decked out in flashy costumes.
