Storm Ciaran: Drone shows extent of flooding in Alfriston, East Sussex, after Cuckmere river bursts its banks

The flooded village. Alfriston, East Sussex, UK after heavy rain followed by storm Cairan the risk remains for futher flooding. The river Cuckmere burst its banks last earlier in the week due to persistant high rainfall but the situation has got worse as further flooding up stream has meant livestock have had to be moved to higher ground. Vehicles have had to be rescued getting stuck in flood waters and those not wsihing to risk the flooded roads are having to take 15 mile detours to reach the village. The enivronmental agency are trying to pump water out of the village. Vilagers have set up there own Alfriston Emergency Group to protect their village and surrounding countryside, with many residents feeling that the Enivronmental Agency have done very little to protect them by their policy of letting nature take its course - despite much of the flooding seen to be due to human intervention along the river bank over the years. A local fatm hand has rescued five cars submergend and strandedd in flood waters in the past 24 hours before the Lulington Lane, at the north entrance to Al;friston has been completely closed off to traffic. More rain is expected.
