Mystery blue sea plankton that illuminated in the dark baffled locals in Thailand.

Footage shows the canal - which flowed into the nearby sea - glowing mesmerizingly when a resident threw a rock onto the surface in Samut Sakhon province, Thailand, on November 3.

Chatchadaporn said they didn't know what it was but the area was close to their houses, almost within his backyard.

He said: ‘It has become an attraction, it's very near our house. But it's not always there. Sometimes it comes and then it goes.'

The blue glowing water is believed to have been caused by bioluminescent planktons, which are microscopic organisms that live in the ocean and produce their own light.
