STORYLINE:
Clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued on Wednesday to control an air base in the Jabal Awliya area, about 50 kilometers south of Khartoum, with both sides claiming to be in control.
The RSF on Wednesday posted video clips on the social media platform X, showing what it said its forces controlling the transit checkpoint on the road linking Khartoum State and the White Nile State.
The clips also showed an old RSF post at the western bank of the Jabal Awliya Dam on the side of Omdurman City, north of Khartoum.
The SAF, for its part, posted video clips on its Facebook page, saying its forces were still in control of the Al-Nujoumi Air Base and the entire Jabal Awliya area.
The Jabal Awliya Emergency Room, a civilian group of political activists, said on Wednesday that more than 70 civilians were killed and thousands were displaced to the neighboring White Nile State due to the military confrontations in the area since Sunday.
Also in the day, activists posted video clips on social media for what they claimed was violent bombardment by the RSF against the neighborhoods of Jabal Awliya where heavy weapons were used and random shells fell on civilians.
However, the RSF denied committing violations against civilians in Jabal Awliya and posted video clips of what it said its units instructing the citizens of the area to stay away from the areas of clashes.
Deadly clashes have been going on between the SAF and the RSF in Khartoum and other areas since April 15, killing up to 9,000 people by October, forcing more than 6 million displaced within and outside Sudan and leaving 25 million in need of aid, according to the latest Sudan situation report on Nov. 12 by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
