STORYLINE:

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) and the National Gallery, London unveiled on Tuesday a special exhibition "Botticelli to Van Gogh: Masterpieces from the Nation Gallery, London."

It showcases 52 paintings dating to the fifteenth to early twentieth century by the celebrated European artists such as Botticelli, Titian, Turner, Monet and Gogh. The masterpieces encompass the significant turning points in the history of art, from the Renaissance to Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): GABRIELE FINALDI, Director of The National Gallery, London
"We've got a new museum here, the Hong Kong Palace Museum. My impression is that this is a museum which is very well run. It's very ambitious to develop international collaborations. It works very hard with building up its audiences, and all of those things were very attractive to us. I think the exhibition has been produced beautifully and presented in a very interesting way, and I'm very satisfied and very pleased."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LOUIS NG, Director of Hong Kong Palace Museum
"We hope that visitors here can appreciate the cultural relics from the Forbidden City, learn about our excellent traditional Chinese culture, and at the same time they can learn about Western art works of different times as well. We hope to promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations."

Hong Kong is the third stop of the National Gallery, London's Asia Tour. It follows the successful runs at the Shanghai Museum and the National Museum of Korea earlier this year.

The exhibition will be open to the public from November 22 to April 11, 2024.
