STORYLINE:

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, received Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, the permanent representative of Palestine to the League of Arab States, in Cairo on Thursday.

Al-Asoumi stressed the Arab Parliament's support and backing of the Palestinian issue as the central Arab issue, and its full support for the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions; first and foremost is the establishment of an independent state with the city of Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Asoumi said the killing and destruction to which the Palestinian people are exposed are beyond human capacity, and that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is a genocidal war.

For his part, Al-Aklouk appreciated the role played by the Arab Parliament and the Palestine Committee headed by the President of the Arab Parliament.

Al-Aklouk condemned the international silence in the face of what is happening in the Gaza Strip at the hands of the occupying authorities.

He called on Arab and Islamic countries to take strong political, economic and diplomatic measures against the crimes that occur.

The two sides also discussed the international action plan prepared by the Arab Parliament to confront the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.
