STORYLINE:

SOUNDBITE (English): GABRIEL MARTIN, Owner of LOKO steakhouse, China's Wuhu
"Hello, my name is Gabriel Martin. I come from Uruguay. I have been doing meat trading, meat exporting to China for over 13 years, and we have a steakhouse located in Wuhu City, Anhui Province.
In November, our president Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou from Uruguay came to China to strengthen the relationship between Uruguay and China. We are very happy that both countries are cooperating and signing a lot of agreements. Now, Uruguay can export beef offal to China, and the other one is that the quarantine of the animals when we export meat. The quarantine, it would be half of the time, reducing from 90 days to 46 days.
And now we are strengthening our 35 years of relationship of both countries. And the agreement we already signed improves a lot of our business. For example, the agreement I mentioned about the offal, it will increase 150 million U.S. dollars approximately every year in adding value to the Uruguayan factories and producers of meat.
2024, next year, is a challenging year for us, but we are very optimistic. We are planning to open our second steakhouse in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. And also for next year, we have a project to start also, the online meat business. We are optimistic for the coming years in China. I think there are still many opportunities in Chinese market."
