A very striking characteristic, apart from having a big nose, is that there are physical differences between females and males.  Male proboscis monkeys have bigger noses than females, but females' noses are not as small as those of monkeys.  The nose of the male proboscis monkey is so large that it seems to hang over the mouth.  If they want to eat, the males have to push their noses out of their mouths so they can put food into their mouths.

Male proboscis monkeys are 2 to 2.5 feet (66-72 cm) tall, and weigh 16-23 kg, while females are 1.7-2 feet (53-61 cm) long and weigh only 7-11 kg.  The tail is the same length as the proboscis monkey's body.  This animal is also known as an animal that likes to live in groups of 12-27, some also have 60 to 80 males and females.  Proboscis monkey groups do not have much structure to their levels.  The social system of proboscis monkeys has two levels, one group consisting of all male members
