STORYLINE:

The active art exchanges between China and Spain are conducive to mutual cultural understanding, said a Barcelona-based Spanish artist Domenec Corbella, whose solo exhibition "Way of Water" is underway in Beijing.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Catalan): DOMENEC CORBELLA, Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona
"Art has no borders and that not only allows us to get to the artistic and contemporary expression taking place in both places at the same time, but it also favors understanding of the culture of both countries.
Cultural exchange is the way for us to make our works of art known in China, such as in Beijing and other cities, and the same for Chinese artists here in Barcelona.
Communication between artists is fundamental because it's easier to understand each other through communication between artists than through art critics or curators."

Corbella also highlighted the importance of academic exchange between China and Spain as a way of strengthening cultural links.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Catalan): DOMENEC CORBELLA, Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona
"A lot of Chinese students come here to do their master's degrees or doctorates, which opens doors for them on a professional level. I've had four Chinese students who have obtained the highest university qualification and that has opened doors for them in China.
In my experience, the Chinese have a special admiration for the art we produce here in Catalonia, especially because of our great international artists, such as Picasso, Miro or Tapies, etc, and because of Modernism, which is fundamental."
