Chinese art teacher stuns with footprints-crafted portraits
A fine arts teacher showcased creativity by imprinting vivid portraits of the Mona Lisa and Charlie Chaplin on the classroom floor using muddy footprints in northern China.
The impressive video was filmed in Shenyang City in Liaoning Province on November 25, 2023.
The artist, Mr Yang Demin, shared that the inspiration struck while he was mopping the floor. It took him three to four hours to complete the intricate portrayal of the Mona Lisa, with the most challenging aspect being the detailed depiction of facial features.
Starting from snowy footprints outside, the artist moved indoors to create his masterpieces. Yang chuckled as he recounted the initial challenges, with numerous trips back and forth. Eventually, he decided to bring in a basket of snow to the classroom, allowing him to repeatedly work on the paintings.
"To achieve light and shadow contrast, I needed to pause many times during the creative process. I waited for the footprints to dry before stepping again. Just like when we use erasers for paper drawings, footprints also require wiping with a mop," explained Yang.
The Mona Lisa painting, measuring approximately 1.8 metres in length and 1.2 metres in width, took nearly four hours to complete, equivalent to almost ten thousand steps, according to Yang.
