STORYLINE:

Hong Kong's largest outdoor farmers' market opened Friday at the Fa Hui Park, showcasing a variety of local agricultural and fishery products and other goods.

The three-day FarmFest 2024 is jointly organized by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), the Vegetable Marketing Organization (VMO) and the Fish Marketing Organization (FMO).

The market, which houses some 400 stalls, opens from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with free admission.

An array of agricultural and fishery products is on sale during FarmFest, featuring premium agricultural products produced by local organic, hydroponic and accredited farms.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Cantonese): KENNETH LAW, Vendor
"This year, we have a special steamed radish cake, which is made with local Lap-mei (preserved meat), white radish and dried shrimp. We also have a hometown egg roll made with local eggs, and a very distinctive Hong Kong local rice."

Early in the morning, many of the stalls were already crowded with people.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Cantonese): HO, Hong Kong resident
"I bought some dried seafood, such as squid, cuttlefish, and oysters. We came here at about 9 a.m. and walked around, and did some grocery shopping."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Cantonese): GU, Hong Kong resident
"Today is the first day of the opening. My office is nearby so I could come here conveniently. I bought some dried food for cooking soup. I tried it and it is sweet. I also bought this dried fish for cooking soup. It smells so good."

To enable consumers to learn more about the latest developments in the industry, an agricultural zone and a fisheries zone have been set up at FarmFest to demonstrate how the industry boosts productivity and enhances the quality of local produce through technology.

In addition, FarmFest also offers entertaining performances, including music and cultural performances, and cooking demonstrations.
