Firefighters in New Delhi cut open an elevator to rescue 10 people who were trapped inside.

Footage from January 8 shows the rescue team perching on top of the lift had become stuck between floors.

They cut open its roof before placing a ladder inside to allow the trapped locals to climb out.

Officials of the Delhi fire and rescue services cut open a lift to rescue 10 people who were trapped inside after it had gotten stuck, in northern India's Delhi.

This incident happened at the Ilum Bar in Rajendra Nagar, Karol Bagh area on January 8.

Visuals showed the daunting rescue operation take place inside the building. The lift had gotten stuck in between the floors and the officials went down and perched on top of the trapped elevator before cutting open its roof. The operation was a pretty risky one as taking out so many people from the lift through that narrow space, was a tough ask in itself. Officials as well as people gathered around in the area as the rescue operation took place.


A ladder was sent down the space which people used to climb and come out into safety. A look of fright and shock prevailed on some of the faces of people who were rescued from the lift. According to a report, people inside the lift got stuck and the fire officials received the information at 6:30 am Indian Standard Time (IST). A total of three fire tenders rushed to the spot for the rescue operation which took three hours to complete. Eventually, 10 people were safely taken out from the lift.
