STORYLINE:
The Chinese embassy in Croatia hosted an Open Day on Thursday, welcoming teachers and students from the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Political Science.
This event provided Croatian students with an opportunity to gain insights into Chinese foreign policy, culture, and the workings of the embassy.
Qi Qianjin, Chinese ambassador to Croatia, delivered a lecture on China's foreign policy and Sino-Croatian relations.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): QI QIANJIN, Chinese ambassador to Croatia
"We are delighted to organize today's opening day for the students and professors from the Faculty of Political Science of Zagreb University. We organized this event to introduce our foreign policy, our value, our mission, and our vision, so we try to make the Croatian people understand our policy, our jobs as a diplomat here."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): KRESIMIR JURAK, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb
"And I think the Chinese embassy in this case is really doing a good job because it opened a lot to our people from Croatia and giving them some insights not only in how they work but also on certain Chinese policies and I think it's very important for people to understand these kinds of things because especially they don't know enough about what's happening with China."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): KAJLA WILLEMS, Student
"Today I feel like I got a bit of an insight into their policy and especially being an international relations student it's very important for us to get to know the culture maybe on a deeper level and their policy because they are becoming such an immense part of politics today."
SOUNDBITE 4 (English): MAK OSTOJIC, Student
"Obviously, Croatia first and foremost is a very small country so China has global ambitions but as the ambassador pointed out the Chinese approach of multi-polarity and equal partnership with other countries should mean that China focuses on Croatia equally as much or proportionally as much as with other countries."
SOUNDBITE 5 (English): STJEPAN BENDKUS, Student
"I'm really open to learning about (China) and I think this will be the first step to getting more to know about China."
