Workers flee as coal mine erupts in explosion in central China
Workers fled as a coal mine erupted in an explosion in central China.
Terrifying CCTV footage was filmed in Pingdingshan City in Henan Province on January 12.
At the outer section of the mine's intake airway, several workers were initially engaged in routine operations. Suddenly, an alarming noise prompted them to flee. Subsequently, more workers joined the frantic escape. Moments later, an explosion rocked the location where the surveillance was stationed, plunging the screen into darkness.
One worker who managed to escape recounted the chaos, stating, "All of a sudden, there was a crackling noise, highly unusual. The tunnel is several hundred meters long, and as soon as things seemed off, everyone started running out. Those who could escape did, and those who couldn't were unfortunate."
Another worker shared that a colleague urgently shouted at him to run, emphasising that if he had delayed by just three minutes, he might have faced a tragic fate.
In the aftermath of the incident, the company promptly reported the situation to relevant government authorities and initiated its emergency response plan for safety incidents.
As of now, following exhaustive search and rescue efforts, the incident has claimed the lives of 13 individuals, with three people still unaccounted for.
The search for the missing personnel is ongoing, and emergency rescue operations are underway with utmost urgency.
