STORYLINE:

Due to advancements in technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR), many individuals have discovered opportunities to delve into the realm of digital twin applications.

In June 2022, this profession was added to the list of China's newly recognized occupations by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Cui Shengji in this profession unveils what his team is working on.

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): CUI SHENGJI, Technical advisor of the Motion Capture Studio at National Animation Industry Park's Public Technology Service Platform
"Digital animations on outdoor large screens, L-shaped large screens that feature naked-eye 3D technology can be realized by digital twin applications.

Also, it's adaptable to some other areas such as the cultural and creative industry, and cultural and tourism industries. The technology can also preserve motion data of intangible cultural heritage, such as Tai Chi or Chinese martial arts.

This studio is around 9 meters high, big enough for some stunt performances. These infrared cameras are used to capture and analyze motion data from different angles, which can help generate motion trajectories. Now, we can take a look at the sensors on the actor's costume.

Look, there are many reflective markers on his body. These makers look gray, but actually they are reflection points when viewed through the camera.

Now we can see the monitor showing the trajectories transmitted from those infrared cameras. As you can see, the trajectories of these 38 cameras are all displayed on the screen. After the data is transmitted, the system can capture every motion trajectory from the actor in real-time. See?

Based on this, data can be transmitted to another computer in real-time as well. It has become the virtual character as you see on that computer. The movements of the character are exactly synchronized with the actions of the actor."
