Heroic police officers rescued several camels, zebras, as well as a miniature horse from a burning trailer.

Cops from the Grand County Sheriff's Office, in the U.S. state of Indiana, joined forces to rescue the terrified animals from the engulfing flames on January 27.

The incident reportedly happened on the Interstate 69 Highway (I-69), prompting first responders to rush at the scene.

Grand County Sheriff's Office said in a statement: 'Deputy Kennedy, Trooper Titus, Sergeant Meeks, the Driver, and others risked their lives to save these animals.

'We are proud of all those who participated in this event.'

Beyond the call of duty, the first responders not only rescued the animals promptly but also took extra measures to keep them calm during the ordeal.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office commended the dedicated team involved in this risky yet successful rescue, emphasising the importance of compassion and bravery in the face of challenging situations.
