STORYLINE:

Art Rotterdam 2024, the 25th edition of the annual international contemporary art fair, opened Wednesday in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The five-day event attracted art enthusiasts, collectors, curators and artists from all over the world, showcasing a diverse selection of artworks from different media, styles and concepts.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): FONS HOF, Director of Art Rotterdam
"Rotterdam is a production city. It's a harbor city, but also in the cultural sense, it's a production city. There are a lot of artists, architects and designers, and what we bring in is the markets. So we bring in the collectors from all around Europe. They come to Rotterdam, but especially also from the Netherlands. So this week we are here. All the collectors. The market is here, but also the curators, the museum directors are all in Rotterdam this week."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): META VAN GRINSEN, Visitor
"Yeah, I look always at bright colors. So I don't, I can't mention names, but the colors. They are my vitamins. I love that. It makes my day."

One of the highlights of the fair is the focus on sustainability and environmental awareness. Many artists use recycled materials and explore themes related to climate change and environmental protection.

Art Rotterdam 2024 also provides a platform for emerging artists to gain exposure and connect with galleries and collectors, providing a springboard for their careers in the competitive art world.
