This is the shocking moment a police officer narrowly dodged a drunk motorcyclist crashing through a checkpoint in Thailand.

Bodycam footage shows the two-wheeler nearly grazing a cop while trying to speed past the traffic checkpoint in Samut Prakan province early morning on February 10.

The 'intoxicated' driver, Boonsak Thanomtham, 37, hit a traffic cone and skidded several feet across the road.

Police detained Boonsak and later found that his motorcycle was stolen, with no license plate and proper registration documents. A report had been filed for the carjacked vehicle at the Bang Pakong Police Station on February 8.

Boonsak claimed he had bought the bike for 5,000 THB (138 USD) but police said they did not believe him.

Further investigations found that Boonsak had an extensive criminal background that previously involved narcotics, theft, and attempted murder.

He was detained at the police station on theft charges.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
