Kayakers and surfers went side-by-side as they took on the River Severn Bore, a natural phenomenon that sees large tidal waves surge along a river.

Footage from Newnham, Gloucestershire, shows crowds lining the river to watch keen surfers take on the tidal bore.

Karen Wren, who filmed this video, told Newsflare: "Hundreds of enthusiasts lined the banks of the River Severn this morning to view the only 5-star Severn Bore of the year.

"As the tidal surge pushes up the Severn Estuary, hitting the natural downstream flow of the river, a tidal wave is created and eagerly awaited by surfers, kayakers and paddle boarders who turned out in force to ride the wave.

"The bore arrived nearly 20 minutes early so many missed out on viewing this natural phenomenon at its best."
