Closing the busy A40 dual carriageway near Monmouth since 9th February, the damage caused by the landslide is now revealed with rocks, mud and rubble spilling onto the road beneath saturated ground topped by precariously perched trees above. Clearance of the debris is expected to start on Monday 19th February so engineers can assess the stability of the land.

The eastbound carriageway from Monmouth towards Ross-on-Wye remains closed with traffic being diverted over Buckholt Hill or through rural villages with commuters growing frustrated by the 20mph single-tracks lanes totally unsuited to the high volume of traffic now passing through.
