Heroic teen sprints through traffic to clear path for fire engines amid emergency
A heroic teen sprinted through traffic to clear a path for fire engines amid an emergency in eastern China.
The video was filmed in Ningbo City in Zhejiang Province on March 30.
Two fire engines were struggling to make their way to a reported hillside fire near the Tongwamen Tunnel. Just when it seemed all hope was lost, a young boy named Wu Zhihao dashed through the cars, opening a path for the emergency vehicles in just two minutes.
The call to action came after a fire was reported on the hillside 20 metres west of the tunnel, prompting the Xiangshan County Fire Rescue Brigade to dispatch a team immediately. However, as they approached the site via Yuhang North Road, the traffic jam threatened to critically delay their mission.
Wu sprang into action, directing cars to move aside and clearing the way for the fire engines, thus enabling them to reach the site swiftly to combat the fire.
Zhao Chaoyou, a member of the Xiangshan County Fire Rescue Brigade, praised the boy's efforts, noting that without his intervention, the fire engines could have been stuck for up to 10 minutes - a delay that could have had severe consequences due to the windy conditions exacerbating the fire.
Wu is a second-year student at Xiangshan County No. 2 High School. In recognition of his actions, firefighters awarded him a certificate of appreciation on 2 April.
Wu, who had heard the fire engine's sirens from his school, decided to help clear the way, knowing the importance of the fire engine reaching the site promptly to save lives and prevent the fire from spreading. Wu expressed his aspiration to become a police officer after college, wanting to help and serve the public in real emergencies.
