This is the disgusting moment a middle-aged tourist stripped off and bathed in a Buddhist shrine in broad daylight in Thailand.

Hans Peter Zwetsloot, 55, was seen staggering along the pavement before pulling down his jeans and allegedly going to the toilet on a pavement in Sukhumvit Soi 4 in Bangkok on Thursday afternoon.

The Swede then climbed into a fountain surrounding a Buddhist spirit monument outside the S.M. Grande Residence Hotel.

Footage shows him bathing naked in the cool water before a security guard arrives to spray him with water in an attempt to usher him away. Police arrived shortly after to check on Hans.

Shocked onlooker Harry Deschamps from Dagenham said: 'The fella looked like he'd been up all night and then some. I reckon he'd had a skin full.

'I was sitting in the hotel lobby just down the road and I saw the security guard spraying a hose pipe on him. I just shook my head. If he sobers up he'll realise what he's done.'

Police Lieutenant Jatanat of the Lumpini Police Station said: 'We coordinated with a local volunteer foundation to take the man to the hospital.

'He wasn't talking properly, so we wanted to have him checked for mental illness or psychiatric problems. However, it is up to him if he decides to get treatment.

'He might have been drunk, or tired, so we made sure he was safe and let him go. He was not a danger to anybody and it was not

Police Captain Wittaya Prakorbkij said the tourist was released.

The cop added: 'He wasn't arrested. We only helped him get a medical check.'
Locals claimed the tourist was a Swedish man often seen near hotels in the area.

Under Section 388 of Thailand's Criminal Code, 'any person who performs such a disgraceful act in public by undressing himself, exhibiting his undressed person or committing any other act of obscenity shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five hundred baht.'

Buddhists put shrines outside their homes and businesses in the belief that the miniature homes will placate spirits that previously occupied the land by providing them with a comfortable new house.
