Train hits car and motorcycles on level crossing killing three people
This is the shocking moment a train struck vehicles killing three people at a level crossing in Indonesia.
The train slammed into a car and two motorcycles as it thundered through the JPL 320 Bokoharjo crossing in Yogyakarta on Tuesday.
Footage shows the train sounding its horn in warning before ploughing through the car and bikes seen spinning from the impact.
Railway workers rushed to the crash site, where three motorcycle riders were found dead. Three injured car passengers were found alive and rushed to a hospital.
Zidan, 20, who was working at a nearby shop, said he heard a long train horn just moments before the collision.
He said: 'A few seconds later the barrier sounded. The cars and motorcycles were already on the tracks when the train arrived.'
Police have cordoned off the area as locals crowded around the mangled wreckage of the car.
Feni Novida Saragih, spokesman for state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), said: 'We are deeply saddened and will assist with all necessary procedures. All passengers and crew of the Bangunkarta train are safe.'
She added that KAI would cover medical expenses for the injured and urged the public to obey safety signs and barriers at level crossings.
The Bangunkarta train resumed its journey after evacuation efforts and safety checks were completed.
Police were investigating why the barrier was reportedly lowered too late, which is believed to have led to the fatal accident.
