STORYLINE:

A carnival featuring cultural exchanges between China and Vietnam was held on Wednesday in the border county of Longzhou in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The annual event ushered in this year's "Sanyuesan," a traditional festival for the Zhuang ethnic group, which falls on the third day of the third month in the Chinese lunar calendar.

During the event, both Chinese and Vietnamese artists played Tianqin, an ancient traditional musical instrument invented by the Zhuang people.

Also on display were clothes made of Zhuang brocade, one of the four famous brocades in China.

"In recent years, we have tried to put handmade Zhuang brocade and leather together to create high-end fashionable products and increase the presence of Zhuang brocade in daily life, hoping to let more people feel the charm of traditional culture."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): TAN CHUNLI, Longzhou County official
"We have invited more than 60 representatives from three neighboring counties of Vietnam to participate in the event to boost cultural and tourism cooperation and economic exchanges, and strengthen friendly exchanges between the two countries."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): PHAM THI TAM, Vietnamese student
"I am a student from Vietnam. It's an honor to join the event. I feel the hospitality of local people. I also feel their love for their tradition and culture. They carry it on and keep innovating. During the event, we also showcased national costumes of some ASEAN countries to let people here know more about different cultures and traditions of different countries as a way to promote cultural exchanges."
