A German and Candian were arrested for teaching an illegal kung fu course on a tourist island in Thailand.

German man Somphet Daoheuang, 37, and Canadian woman Arbely Natalie Rubalcava Rojo, 34, were detained by cops at the Samma Karuna yoga school on Koh Pha Ngan island in Surat Thani province on March 30.

Police made the arrest following a complaint about the foreigners promoting the Chinese-style course 'The Shaolin Experience' on Facebook.

Officers raided the yoga school and found foreign customers doing stretches under Somphet's supervision.

When confronted, Somphet allegedly admitted to teaching the martial arts course and claimed he had been hired by the school.

He said each participant had to pay 9,000 baht (230 Euros), 40 per cent of which goes to the yoga centre. The classes were divided into two three-hour sessions on March 28 and 29.

Both instructors were taken to the Koh Pha Ngan Police Station, where they were charged with working without a permit.

Just a week earlier, a Polish sex guru was arrested for conducting 'tantric yoga' workshops on the same island.

Michal Grygoruk, 46, had been holding erotic sex lessons for singles and couples at the Tantra Movement School before he was arrested by police for working without a permit.

The arrests come amid a wider crackdown on foreigners behaving badly in the Southeast Asian country, that was sparked last month by the arrest of Swiss businessman Urs Beat Fehr, 45, for kicking a Thai doctor who was sitting on his beachfront garden steps in Phuket.
