A terrified family came face-to-face with a wild elephant that damaged their car on a road in Malaysia.

The parents and their two children were travelling through Jalan Gerik-Jeli, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur when the jumbo emerged.

Driver Abdul Jad Ayub and his wife recorded the beast attacking their car during the incident on Friday, April 12.

He said: 'My family and I were on our way home after coming from my wife's village. Previously, many cars from the opposite direction gave high beam signals.'

Ayub said he was surprised to find that in front of him there was a giant wild elephant and he was forced to pull over.

At first, the elephant just walked along the side of the road and then approached cars, including the vehicle Ayub was driving.

He added: 'The animal was just passing cars, but my 10-year-old son was startled and made a loud sound. That made the elephant interested and it came back closer to our car.

'I have four children and all of them are still small. The elephant then poked at the rear passenger door

'Me and my family were trembling with fear. I felt my car lift.

'I immediately drove the vehicle to avoid the elephant attack and then continued my journey.'
