At Shendiao Wild Animal Nature Reserve located in Weihai, Shandong, China on August 15, 2022, a 25-year-old male elephant named Shanmai (Mountains) returned a fallen shoe to a tourist with its trunk.

At that moment, several children were feeding the elephant. Nearby, one child accidentally dropped their shoe, leading to this heartwarming scene.

According to local reports, its keeper rewarded Shanmai by letting it enjoy some watermelon.

A staff member at the reserve speculated on the elephant's behavior during an interview: "It rubbed its nose and toes, indicating it might not have found the food appealing. When visitors interact and feed it with grass, if it finds something unsatisfactory, it may come back for something better. I think that's how it sees it. It's usually very smart, with a good temperament.”
