Aftermath of highway collapse that killed 24 captured in aerial 360 view
On May 1st, around 2:10 AM local time, a highway collapse occurred on the Meida Expressway in Guangdong Province, China, heading towards Fujian. As of 15:00 on May 1, after on-site verification, the accident caused a total of 20 vehicles to fall (no dangerous vehicles, buses and other large vehicles were found), involving a total of 54 people, of which 24 people were confirmed dead, 30 people are under full treatment in the hospital, and their lives are not in danger. At present, the relevant disposal work is in progress.
Following the incident, Guangdong Province established an on-site command center for accident rescue. Approximately 500 personnel from various departments, including public security, emergency response, firefighting, health, transportation, and mining rescue teams, have been mobilized for on-site rescue efforts.
Footage captured by eyewitnesses at the scene shows a section of the highway collapsing entirely down the mountainside, with mud sliding down at least several tens of meters away. Only the highway guardrails connected to the pillars are left dangling in mid-air.
