STORYLINE:
Tanorn village, once poor and isolated in the Bati district of Cambodia's Takeo province, has undergone tremendous changes under a China-aided poverty alleviation project.
Situated roughly 60 km south of the country's capital of Phnom Penh, the village has a total area of 72 hectares and is currently home to 132 households with more than 600 people.
Launched in January 2021, the Cambodia-China Friendship Village for Poverty Alleviation Project has been turning Tanorn village into a modern one with well-established basic physical infrastructure.

"This project will be completed next year. Overall, this project has been fully supported by local residents because it has greatly changed the infrastructure landscape of the village, and people can very conveniently travel in and out of the village."
Under the project, concrete roads, clean water system, solar power, drainage system for flood prevention, and other essential public facilities have been developed.

"Currently, I am opening a grocery at home along a nice concrete road. My family has benefited a lot from this project, as my husband also runs a motorcycle repair shop.
All villagers and I have benefited a lot from this project. We now have clean drinking water, concrete roads, and solar power at all homes."
