A powerful explosion caused by a gas leak tore down the walls of a family's home.

The house owner Russarin Chusinkawiphat said they accidentally left the gas valve open in the kitchen and was shocked when they heard the loud blast at the back of the property in Bangkok, Thailand on May 15.

CCTV footage shows the blast knocking down the wall divider that separated the dirty kitchen from the main room.

Utensils such as pans, bottles, and a large portion of the structure flew off and scattered on the floor as debris.

Mum Russarin said: ‘We were in the other room while our nanny was about to prepare food for everyone. Suddenly the ground shook and there was a loud noise. I thought it was the end of the world. We were crying and shouting for help.'

Russarin added her husband rushed to take her baby and took all of them in the car outside, and drove away with their injured helper to seek help.'

She said: ‘The smell of the gas was so strong. We all drove out and called for help. I felt pity for our nanny. She was like family for us.'

The house owner added that the leak might have filled the entire room after being left overnight.

Only the house helper who was near the kitchen during the explosion was hurt. She is now recovering at the Lerdsin Hospital.

Russarin added: ‘She was taken to the burn unit department. Her wounds are healing and everyone is taking care of her.'
