USA: Eight Boaters Saved from Sinking Vessel off Galveston Coast
Galveston, TX, USA - May 28, 2024
The Coast Guard executed a daring rescue operation off the coast of Galveston, Texas, saving eight boaters from a perilous situation as their vessel began taking on water.
On Tuesday, 29 May, Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center received a distress call via VHF-FM channel 16 at 4:36 p.m. The caller, aboard a 48-foot pleasure craft, reported the alarming situation, with eight adults onboard and the vessel rapidly filling with water.
Responding swiftly to the distress call, watchstanders initiated an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, alongside a Coast Guard Station Galveston 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew.
Upon reaching the scene, the helicopter crew executed a flawless rescue, hoisting all eight individuals to safety before transporting them to Scholes International Airport in Galveston. Miraculously, no injuries were reported among the rescued boaters.
