Thai Family discovers giant cauliflower mushrooms growing in their garden
A family in Thailand discovered giant mushrooms growing outside their house in Phayao province on June 5. The two large edible Macrocybe crassa mushrooms were found sprouting from a plant box overrun by grass.
Footage captures a grandmother plucking the two 40 cm diameter fungi from the soil and showing them to her grandchild, who holds both mushrooms to demonstrate their impressive size.
While exploring the area, the family found a third mushroom, although it was only half the size of the first two.
One resident commented, "We have a small store at the front of our property and were always busy, so we didn't notice the fungi immediately until we saw them."
The mushrooms were white with slightly brown caps and had stalks measuring over 150 cm long.
Macrocybe crassa, also known as the cauliflower mushroom, is an edible fungus typically found in clusters on decaying wood or tree stumps, especially of oak, beech, and other hardwood trees.
