China has accelerated the development of deep-sea and far-sea mariculture for the country's food security.

The "Haiwei-2" is an intelligent semi-submersible aquaculture platform in south China's Guangdong Province.

It boasts a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters of water for aquaculture.

Equipped with solar electricity system, the platform is self-sufficient in green energy, which enables unmanned operation and real-time remote monitoring.

"At present, 'Haiwei-2' is at the second breeding cycle. After about 2 years, we can harvest about a million kilograms of fish."

In the sea area off northeast China's Liaoning Province, the population of stichopus japonicus has grown from 250,000 some 20 years ago to more than 1 million.

Apart from dedicated protection efforts, aquatic germplasm resource reserves have been set up for further cultivation.

In east China's Fujian Province, its mariculture output in 2023 was nearly 5.8 million tonnes, ranking second in the country.

In Ningde City of Fujian, the local authorities have taken measures to control floating waste at sea and upgrade aquaculture facilities.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): YOU WEIDE, Chairman of Fujian Sanduao Food Co., Ltd.
"After upgrading, the environment is better, the quality of fish is better, and there is much more fish than ever before."
