A large, specialized vessel arrived from China at the Kribi Deep Sea Port Phase II terminal in Cameroon on Thursday.

This vessel, which carried several cranes, is the first ship to dock at the terminal.

Kribi Deep Sea Port Phase II is being constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC).

The new seaport, strategically positioned in the center of the Gulf of Guinea, has stimulated the country's economy and has become a regional hub for the African Atlantic coast.

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): SHI ZHIHUI, Staff member of Kribi Deep Sea Port Phase II Project
"Welcome to the construction site of Kribi Deep Sea Port Phase II. Today, we are very honored to witness the arrival of the first shipment of port machinery equipment. The equipment on the vessel was made in Shanghai and Nantong. The vessel departed from Shanghai at the end of July. After more than a month, today, the vessel finally came to the Gulf of Guinea, to Kribi. The first batch of equipment includes five shore-to-shore gantry cranes and two rubber-tyred gantry cranes. The docking of the first ship also shows that our berths are ready for berthing. The arrival of the cranes also marks a milestone for our port construction, which lays the foundation for our on-time delivery at the end of the year."
