A large chunk of highway was wiped out following a massive landslide in Wyoming, USA.

Before-and-after aerial footage taken on June 10 shows a huge section of the pavement destroyed along Teton Pass, a crucial route through Wyoming State Highway 22.

A guardrail drooped into the collapsed slope while orange road traffic markers blocked off the area.

Drivers were redirected to a temporary detour via US 26 through Swan Valley and into Snake River Canyon as Wyoming Department of Transportation crew assess the area's stability.

The collapse began from a small crack on the road on June 6. Geologists and engineers sent to the area said 'that crack and that drop started to move a lot.'

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has issued an emergency declaration, allowing the state to access resources from the Federal Highway Administration for repairs.

He said: 'We are closely monitoring this ongoing situation, and Wyoming Department of Transportation personnel are working diligently to develop a long-term solution to rebuild this critical roadway.

'I recognize the significant impacts this closure has to Teton County residents, regional commuters and the local economy.'
