Coast guard rescues stranded turtle in India
The Indian Coast Guard rescued a stranded turtle caught in a ghost net.
Crew from the patrol vessel Samarth spotted the reptile entangled in the abandoned mesh net floating off Kavaratti Island in the Lakshadweep union territory on June 15.
Several officers boarded a boat and sailed toward the hapless animal to cut it loose with a knife.
The animal paddled away unharmed after being freed.
The coast guard said: 'Efforts are in line with the commitment of ICG towards protection of marine wild life in our oceans.'
