This is the incredible moment a camel tries to eat a fawn that runs into its enclosure.

Shocking footage shows the camel grabbing the little Bambi by the back and lifting it into the air as it chomped down on it with its powerful teeth.

The video footage was captured at Longshan Park in Liaoyuan in Jilin, China, on June 15.

The fawn was small enough to take advantage of a small hole that had appeared in the netting between the camel and the deer enclosure and wandered through to the other side to explore.

But it quickly became terrified when it found itself surrounded by the huge camels and tried to flee, where it was then attacked by one of the much larger beasts.

Online commentators speculated that the camel was hungry, and experts confirmed that if forced by hunger, a camel will eat fish, meat, skin, and even bones.

However, staff said that the camel was simply annoyed with the deer and wanted to force it to go away.

Bambi's ordeal ended when zoo visitors raised the alarm, and staff from the park rushed into the cage and were able to rescue the terrified fawn and safely place it back into the neighbouring enclosure where it was reunited with its mum.

They said that the hole had been made by an angry camel that had kicked the netting and that measures would be taken to ensure this did not happen again.
